JD Vance did damage control on Wednesday after Donald Trump promised every adult American citizen $5,000 if Republicans win the upcoming midterm elections, flat-out denying that it’s an open bribe by the president. Critics immediately accused Vance of trying to “sanewash” yet another Trump scandal. Link in bio for the full video! 🎥 Fox News #Trump #JDVance #Midterms #Bribe #Tariffs
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was asked at an event why he hasn't left the Democratic Party to become an Independent. His inadvertent slip-up in response generated quite a bit of laughter in the crowd. This weekend, DNC Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta blasted Fetterman, urging him to “do the decent thing and quit” after multiple controversies, including his frequent appearances on right-wing outlets to trash-talk his party. "And then you can spend all day on Fox News."
Lorenzo Salgado Jr. and Ronaldo Salgado testified at a forum sponsored by House and Senate Democrats examining five deadly shootings involving ICE and other federal immigration agents. They also heard from Renee Good's mother and brother and witnesses from the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti. No Republicans attended. Their testimony came just a day after another ICE shooting in Texas: Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, 28, was shot and injured Sunday in North Austin.
After his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, during which he called Cuba a “failed state,” Trump then gave a press conference saying Secretary Of State Marco Rubio would “figure it all out.”
HuffPost’s Jen Bendery traveled to Alaska and interviewed nearly four dozen Republicans, Democrats, independents and even someone in The Useless Clown Party (it’s a recognized political group here!). She asked the same questions of everyone — do you plan to vote in the Senate race, and if so, for whom and why? — spanning families, older couples, young adults and people of different genders and races. Across the board, people shared how tired they are of division and chaos in politics. When they think about the Senate race, they said, they’re looking for someone who seems authentic, someone they could comfortably talk to, and someone they believe will put the public’s interests above their own. President Donald Trump and Republicans are heading into the midterm elections with a big problem on their hands: War-induced inflation has erased workers’ wage gains from the past year. Although the decrease might seem modest, it amounts to a pay cut for workers ― and helps explain why people are so down on the economy. Falling real wages is not what Trump and leaders in the House and Senate promised voters under unified Republican control. But the president’s war of choice in Iran has sent gasoline and diesel prices to painful new heights, pushing up the cost of food, energy and transportation. On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, Betty Ong remained calm and professional — an extraordinary feat given that five men had hijacked the American Airlines plane she was working on. Twenty minutes after Flight 11’s takeoff from Boston Logan Airport to Los Angeles, Ong, a flight attendant of 14 years, called the American Airlines reservation desk to report what was happening onboard. Ong’s cool, calm 23-minute phone call from the back of the aircraft on Sept. 11, 2001, provided the very first alert to ground personnel that a hijacking was underway and contributed to the eventual shutdown of U.S. airspace. (Officials credit fellow Flight 11 attendant Madeline “Amy” Sweeney with helping authorities on the ground identify the hijackers by telephoning details about them to her supervisor. Unlike Ong, there’s no public recording of Sweeney’s call. Read more at our link above.
A member of the audience during Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) address to the GOP midterm convention in Dallas on Thursday repeatedly shouted, “He should be shot,” as the senator listed and criticized prominent Democrats. Cruz mentioned New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico. And after each name, an unidentified member of the crowd could be heard shouting: “He should be shot.” See the moment above.
Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) was caught in a viral moment on Tuesday when cameras captured her unfiltered reaction to Sen. Eric Schmitt’s (R-Mo.) embarrassing mistake during former special counsel Jack Smith’s testimony. Par for the course for Republicans trying to disparage Smith, Schmitt asked the former special counsel, “Did you go to an NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 3, 2024?” A confused Smith said he was not there, leading to Schmitt accusing him of perjury. After some back-and-forth, it was revealed that Schmitt apparently mixed up the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks with the Iowa Hawkeyes’ women’s basketball team. As Smith recalled attending the Hawkeyes’ game, cameras in the room slowly zoomed in on Britt’s bewildered face as the realization of what Schmitt had just done dawned on her.
Republicans have tried and tried to portray former special counsel Jack Smith as a partisan hack in his prosecution of Donald Trump, and on Tuesday, during a high-profile hearing, Sen. Eric Schmitt seemed to think he finally had the goods. But the attempted slam dunk, which the former state prosecutor boasted amounted to perjury, turned into an embarrassing miss by Schmitt, who had mixed up the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks with the Iowa Hawkeyes’ women’s basketball team.
Fox News host Trey Gowdy expressed concern about President Donald Trump trying to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America” amid his trade war with Canada. But Gowdy’s explanation of his objection on “The Five” Thursday was absolutely kooky. Watch the moment above.
Jose Mejia Hernandez on Friday filed a police report saying he is the victim of a crime, alleging that two ICE officers beat him and left him bleeding with an injury to his brain. New video shared with HuffPost appears to show the moments after Jose Mejia Hernandez’s interaction with federal agents. The videos depict a dazed, bleeding and visibly confused Mejia Hernandez. As he tries to sit up, he cannot do it alone. An officer appears to help him stand, though he is clearly wobbly, unsure of his footing and breathing heavily. JD Vance did damage control on Wednesday after Donald Trump promised every adult American citizen $5,000 if Republicans win the upcoming midterm elections, flat-out denying that it’s an open bribe by the president.
