Imagine being afraid of something lurking under your bed, only to discover you should’ve been worried about what’s flying over your roof. 😬 The more folklore I research, the more I understand why our ancestors had so many rules about staying inside after dark… But I guess that doesn’t even help in this case. 😅

Who remembers this?! Did you just read the book or did you also have this audio tape to go with it? It was one of my FAVORITE Halloween traditions growing up. My mom would have an apple spice candle lit, it leave outside would be swirling. A slight cold breeze was in the air. We’d get cozy in a blanket and we’d listen to this whole book. Men with long teeth, a lost sweater in the graveyard, and a pirate in the closet? It was the PERFECT level of scary for a kid. Except that freakin ghost in a box gave me nightmares for years. 😂

“Beware the wicked Redcap, he’d love to see you dead - he’ll take all of your blood and wear it on his head. -Traditional rhyme warning of the Redcap. Side note- that sign in Scotland totally cracked us up. SO MANY of their signs over there seemed to be overly explanatory. In America we are more like Kevin from the Office and I quote… “Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?” 🤣🤣🤣 #folklore #scotlandfolklore #storytime #faeries #fieldguidetothefae
