🧬 You might think de-extinction starts with cloning. It doesn’t. Long before anything is cloned, scientists have to rebuild ancient genomes, compare that to the closest living relative, identify key genetic differences, and figure out which changes made an extinct species what it was. Cloning gets the headlines. But computational biology makes it all possible. #deextinction #cloning #biotech #science #colossal

Did you know there are only three infraclasses of extant mammals, based on their “baby making” techniques? These are monotremes, marsupials, and placentals. Monotremes include just five species: the platypus and four echidnas. Found only in Australia and New Guinea, they lay eggs and have a single orifice for urination, defecation, and reproduction. Okay. Moving on. Marsupials include more than 300 species native to Australasia and the Americas. They give birth to underdeveloped embryos that instinctively climb into the mother’s pouch. Kangaroos, koalas, opossums, and wombats are all marsupials. Placental mammals are the largest group, with around 4,000 known species. Their young develop inside the uterus, where they are nourished through the placenta. This group includes dogs, cats, wolves, elephants, and us. The more you know. Be careful where you drop that “single orifice” fact. #animalfacts #wildlife #monotremes #science #colossalbubblemascara

Blue is the world's favorite color. But it's also one of nature's rarest achievements. Evolution had to invent chemistry tricks, microscopic light-bending structures, and even diet hacks just to create it. But soon, the animal world may be a little bluer. Now we're working to bring the bluebuck back through de-extinction. Science still doesn't know exactly what gave its coat that remarkable blue appearance. But we do know this: it's mounting a comeback. Follow for updates as we work to bring blue back to Africa. 😎 #imblue #nature #funfacts #deextinction #colossal
There’s a lot to learn about life on this planet. But it’s kind of wild that one of its most important stories is one most people have never heard. We’re spilling the tea on the amniotic egg. 🎥 Streaming now on YouTube. 🔗 Link in bio.

We’re bringing back a literal blue antelope. From extinction. Follow along for scientific breakthroughs. Today we’re announcing the bluebuck de-extinction project. Gone since 1800, this silvery, slate-blue grazer once shaped South Africa’s grasslands. Now it’s on its way back. 💪
The brown howler monkey is insanely loud. Especially for an animal about the size of a raccoon. Its calls can reach ~ 140 decibels, making them among the loudest sounds produced by any land animal. That's louder than motorcycles, ambulance sirens, and even most rock concerts. The secret is an enlarged, hollow hyoid bone that acts like a natural resonance chamber. It's an amazing and unmistakable sound. But for nearly 200 years, those howls have been missing from Tijuca National Park in Rio. Now, the Colossal Species Reintroduction Fund is supporting Refauna as it releases another group of brown howler monkeys back into the park.
🎓 Meet the SRF Class of 2026. Every year, the Colossal Foundation’s Species Reintroduction Fund awards $250,000 to some of the most important species reintroduction projects on the planet. These are the seven selected for 2026. Go make us proud.
😈 Yes, we’re trying to save Tasmanian devils with meat nuggets. A contagious cancer called devil facial tumor disease (DFTD) has devastated devil populations across parts of Tasmania. That’s why we’re partnering with Dr. Andrew Flies and the incredible team at @utas to develop edible vaccine baits, while also exploring genetic tools that could help future generations resist devastating diseases like this. 🧬 You might think de-extinction starts with cloning. It doesn’t. Long before anything is cloned, scientists have to rebuild ancient genomes, compare that to the closest living relative, identify key genetic differences, and figure out which changes made an extinct species what it was.

Blue is the world's favorite color. But it's also one of nature's rarest achievements. Evolution had to invent chemistry tricks, microscopic light-bending structures, and even diet hacks just to create it. But soon, the animal world may be a little bluer.

Blue is the world's favorite color. But it's also one of nature's rarest achievements. Evolution had to invent chemistry tricks, microscopic light-bending structures, and even diet hacks just to create it. But soon, the animal world may be a little bluer.
🥚 Think you know your egg layers? Comment "Winning" if you called this one. Thanks to @Paleon.dinosaurios for the idea.
Would finding the second largest dinosaur ever feel like glory, disappointment, or motivation? The “titan” of paleontology, @Kenneth Lacovara exactly what it felt like and what he did next. 🎥 Full story on YT now. Link in bio. #dinosaur #paleontology #dinos #science #colossal

Because tomorrow’s devils deserve a fighting chance.
